“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
I believe in the power of art to heal when words are not enough. I have been working as an art therapist in the Northern Virginia/DC Metro area since 1997. I am an experienced mental health practitioner in using art therapy techniques and interventions to assist clients in developing mindful health practices through art making to promote stress relief, positive coping, and self awareness. I have offered creative arts therapy in a variety of settings and with all ages, which have included medical settings, therapeutic school settings, and in-home work. I specialize in working with children and adolescents experiencing chronic and acute medical illness, grief and loss, adoption, foster care, learning disabilities impacting school performance, and teen mothers. I also work with adults facing major life transitions such as a new job, first time parent, medical illness, anxiety, trauma, or coping with grief and loss.
I am an adjunct faculty member at The George Washington University Graduate Art Therapy Program. I currently provide on-campus supervision for art therapy graduate students. Past courses taught include, Adolescent Art Therapy. In this course students learned about using art therapy to effectively work with adolescents. In addition to teaching, I offer art therapy supervision to individuals and small groups where I bring knowledge, experience, sensitivity, and creativity to support the growth of the art therapy trainee or professional.
